The research company in Chile has today four employees, and Dr Hatlen is the newest.
– Puerto Varas is a great place to be for a researcher who’d like closer contact with the industry, since all aquaculture companies has their bases within a very limited area, says Hatlen.
He will work on nutrition projects, and be a catalyst for more research activity. The competence that lies in the mother institutes will be the basis of the projects.
Hatlen has moved from Sunndalsøra in Norway to Puerto Varas in Chile with his family for a period of 16 months, and he loves it.
– It’s particularly exciting for someone who works with feedstuff evaluation to work in Chile, where they utilize a much larger specter of feedstuffs than they do in Europe, says Hatlen.
The aquaculture exhibition Aqua Sur is around the corner the 26-29 March, and AVS Chile will be represented with a stand. AVS Chile was established in 2007 as cooperation between former AKVAFORSK (now Nofima), SINTEF, and VESO.
