Project

Automatic quality control of fresh landed cod

Facts

Start 31. December 2004
End 30. December 2007
The Norwegian fish processing industry experience both production problems and negative reactions from the marked that can be related to the quality of the raw material. Several of the most critical defects are characterised by red colour in the skin. The objective of this project is to develop and test an optical colour based technique for sorting the landed fish into two batches based on skin colour, one of high quality and one of lower quality. To achieve this a test line will be assembled at Fiskeriforskning, and a sorting criteria and software will be developed. To validate the performance of the test line a large test will be performed where the two batches will be compared. This to ensure that sorting will provide one batch with a high end product quality and an increased product yield.
