Annually the farming industry experiences large losses and we want to investigate whether pumping and rough handling may explain some of these losses.
The project is divided into three WP`s. WP 1 will map the challenges in the industry. WP 2 is the experimental part where effects of pumping and handling will be investigated. We also want to look at long term effects of pumping/handling since smolt, opposite to slaughter fish, are expected to perform after sea transfer. WP 3 will produce a protocol for best practice.
The main goals in the project is to reduce injuries and to increase welfare in pumped and handled fish, and to prevent long term negative effects as a result of rough treatment earlier in life.
