Fish Breeders’ Round Table is an international forum, where knowledge and experience is exchanged between fish breeding researchers and those involved in applied genetic improvement work on a commercial basis.

When

September 1-3, 2011. The meeting starts at 13.00 on Thursday and ends at 16.00 on Saturday. On Sunday, September 4, we will arrange a field trip for those interested.

How to get there

By plane to Sola Airport, Stavanger. Sola Strand Hotel is located 2 km from the airport, so the easiest is to take a taxi.

Please register before August 1 using our electronic enrolment form. Registration is now closed.
The price is NOK 3000, inclusive all meals and activities during the meeting.

Program

Session 1. Genomics in aquaculture breeding. Invited speaker: Prof. Mike Goddard, Department of Primary Industries and the University of Melbourne.

Session 2. Genetic models and modelling fish diseases. Invited speaker: Dr. Jørgen Ødegård, Nofima.

Session 3. Free communications on any theme that is important for you. Contributions to these three sessions are welcome.

Field trip Sunday 4th of September

The destination of the Field Trip this year is a guided fjord cruise in the Hjelmeland Region and Ryfylke Fjords. We will first visit the Center for Aquaculture Competence at Hundsneset. They are testing out how new promising research will work in a commercial large scale production. After the first visit the boat will take us to Spa Hotel Velvære at Hjelmeland for a wonderful tapas lunch with elements of Norwegian specialties. After a great lunch the boat takes us to the second and last visit; Sterling White Halibut at Kjeurda. The production of Sterling Halibut focus on high quality, and it has become a well known brand among consumers and chefs.

Schedule: 9.30 to 18.30

Price: 350 NOKs for lunch. Each person will pay directly for themselves that day, so no money should be transferred for this trip.

EAAP

In 2011, the EAAP meeting will be arranged in Stavanger. On September 1, 08.30-12.00, there will be one session on aquaculture breeding. See the web page of EAAP for more information (link to the right). We hope to see you at Fish Breeders’ Round Table next autumn!
