We have first-hand knowledge about the choice of feedstuffs, particularly in relation to the technical properties and the biological accessibility. The centre plays an important role with respect to sustainability and efficient food production.
We can offer our clients the best possible solutions for pilot scale trials and production including grinding, mixing, extruding, pelleting and agglomeration.
Our state-of-the-art pilot production plant for feed carries out customised pilot trials and feed production.
The base unit in the extrusion line is a twin-screw extruder with associated units for preconditioning and drying, as well as a vacuum coater and a top coater.
Our flexible system enables small and medium sized production as well as the implementation of controlled process studies.
The Feed Technology Centre's typical assignments include:
- Pilot productions for fish farmers
- Production of self-developed feed concepts in the early commercial phase
- Expertise in ingredients and feed technology
- Experimental feed for R & D institutions and industry
We have long worked with the commercialisation of new feed concepts, including:
- AgloNorse: a larvae feed for marine fish originally developed at our institute
- Blue Limit: developing of larvae feed for shellfish and shrimps
- Developing of dry feed for sea urchins, king crabs and lobsters
We test different feed concepts under controlled conditions with different fish species in sea cages and land-based tanks, which are equipped with temperature controls and automatic collection of waste feed.
The facilities comprise:
- 16 sea cages (5m x 5m)
- Computer-controlled feeding system
- Land based installations including 42 tanks, automatic feeders and waste feed collectors, heat pumps and temperature and oxygen controls
- Facilities for weighing and measuring
- Facilities for waste disposal
The Feed Technology Centre attracts many clients, both nationally and internationally. All assignments are handled in strict confidence.
Typical client groups include producers of raw materials and additives, fish farmers, feed producers, fishmeal producers and universities and research institutions.
