Facts about Solveig van Nes

I belong to the “Efficient and sustainable production” group. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team within Nofima, a large part of my work consists of projects with commercial fish farmers. In these projects the main goal is to optimise aquaculture production during the sea water phase, e.g. to reduce feed cost, cut the production time of the seawater phase, and to make production more predictable. An important part of my work is also to communicate research and aquaculture related subjects through teaching at the university, project meetings with the industry, and knowledge transfer in international projects. Gender determination and gender control of fish for aquaculture purposes is also an area of great interest to me.

Education: M. Sci degree in marine biology and genetics, University of Groningen, Netherlands (1998), Dr. Sci (PhD) in developmental and reproductive biology, molecular fish biology, and gender control in aquaculture, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Ås, Norway (2006).
