A multi-task approach to reduce losses and improve knowledge.

The principal objectives of the project are to identify causal factors leading to the development of cardiomyopathy syndrome (CMS), improve diagnostic tools and suggest strategies for prevention and control to reduce the occurrence and consequences of the disease.

Nofima Marin will use their expertise within modern molecular biological methods, mainly microarray analysis of global gene expression, which combined with a traditional epidemiological and diagnostics approach may provide improved diagnostic tools. Our approach may also strengthen the hypothesis of a contagious disease and also suggest causal factors for disease. This project will be an important test for the validity of using gene expression studies to resolve multifactorial diseases like this.

Project manager is Marine Harvest Norway by Olav Breck.
