THE PACKAGING CONVENTION (EK)

Nofima Mat is the secretariat for the Packaging Convention.

The Packaging Convention, EK, is a cooperative organisation involving food producers, packaging producers and food retailers, and was established by these parties in 1975.
In 1989, Nofima Mat entered into an agreement with the board of the Packaging Convention and became its professional and administrative secretariat.
The Packaging Convention aims to contribute to materials and objects in contact with foodstuffs safe and healthy and comply with the regulations on contact with food (Norwegian text only). The EK Certificate is an important element towards achieving this aim.
The regulations on contact with food are administered by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and are largely based on regulations adopted by the European Commission. These regulations have developed rapidly over the past years, and much work still remains.
The duties of Nofima Mat include controlling documentation, providing information about the regulations in force, establishing projects to facilitate application processes and building up competence in the secretariat and in the convention's members.

Participants from Nofima Mat include:

  • Svend A Svendsen, project manager and case worker
  • Marit Kvalvåg Pettersen, case worker
  • Rita Distad, secretary

TKDVN - The Technical Committee for Cleaning Agents and Disinfectants Used in the Food Industry

Nofima Mat is the secretariat for TKVDN - The Technical Committee for Cleaning Agents and Disinfectants Used in the Food Industry.

CLEANING
- hygiene and financial aspects

The food industry has strict requirements for cleaning and hygiene.

  • Correct and efficient cleaning presupposes knowledge of the properties of the dirt in order to identify the most efficient cleaning agents and disinfectants.
  • Knowledge of the cleaning agents' effect on the surface material is essential in order to avoid unnecessary wear.
  • • Knowledge of the cleaning agents' effect on the surroundings is essential to the safety of the users and of the environment.
  • Many things must be taken into account. Knowledge on cleaning agents and disinfectants is absolutely essential.

The use of products registered by TKVDN is therefore advised, as TKDVN is the responsible body for ensuring that the information directed to users and on labelling is compliant with applicable regulations.

TKVDN has established guidelines for the design of labelling and information for users (in Norwegian only).

Based on information on labels and user information, TKVDN has developed a Product Guide (in Norwegian only) listing products, areas of application, properties and HSE information for the detergents and disinfectants registered by TKVDN.
