Research interest:

I belong to the focus area Food safety and prolonged shelf-life at Nofima Food, where I am working in a project entitled: “Improving food safety in the domestic environment by risk analysis of consumer food handling and evaluation of risk-reducing measures”. This is a transdisciplinary study in cooperation with SIFO, National Institute for Consumer Research, and an advisory board consisting of representatives from the food industry, retailers, food authorities and other stakeholders.

The main objective of this study is to reduce food borne disease in Norway caused by improper handling of food by the consumer. We also want to obtain and analyse science-based data on consumer knowledge, attitudes, behaviour and hygienic level in domestic environment in Norway, to identify critical food handling practices in the domestic environment and efficient risk preventing measures and to provide more relevant information to Norwegian consumers about food risks and handling. We will achieve this through questionnaire surveys, interviews, microbiological surveys, HACCP-methodology and video studies of different kitchens and food-preparing situations.
