The packaging pilot plant

Nofima Mat can offer a great deal of competence in the interaction between product and packaging. We are pleased to help with actual problems relating to choice of packaging, packaging techniques and shelf life. We can also tailor courses on packaging specifically for your company and product.

Packaging is a significant part of the finished product, of great importance for shelf life, choice of distribution method and how the product is presented to the consumer. Packaging trials are usually performed at the company itself, but the consequence is an interruption to normal production while the trial is carried out.

In Nofima Mat's packing pilot plant we can help companies with:

  • testing packing methods (vacuum packing and gas packing)
  • testing and advice on choice of films and foils
  • testing shelf life in climate controlled or chilled areas

The packing halls have the following equipment available:

  • flow-pack machinery
  • tray packing machinery
  • vacuum chamber machinery
  • bag packing machinery


The packing halls are part of Nofima Mat's food workshops, which also include:

• bakery
• meat pilot plant
• fish pilot plant
• vegetable pilot plant

All halls are authorized by Mattilsynet (the Norwegian Food Safety Authority).
